Reflection

         “What is a veteran’s museum?” I said to Yasser. When I heard about a museum project, the question was my first reaction. Of course I like to the word ‘Veteran’ because on Veteran’s day, some online shops have a good deal for customers. However, I realized that the word ‘Veteran’ had a heavy mood in the United State after visiting the museum. On last Saturday, our group went to veteran’s museum. Actually, before going to the museum, we was confused about location of the museum because when we searched the museum, the place was near a north side, is not near a south side. Anyway, we went to the museum for some two hours.

When we first arrived there, we were surprised of the museum because the museum was like a general apartment in which people live in, and there was a small space than we thought. The exhibition“100 faces of war experience” was showing in the museum. The exhibition meant that 100 portraits and words of American who served for the United States. When I faced to their art, I were really impacted by their art because their portraits had their emotion and life in the Army. Of course I also was in Korean Army, it was hard time. However, I saw that veterans who are in paintings had some special things in which I could not explain. After looking around there, I thought that special things were their passion of art and a patriotism. That is to say, when I was seeing their art, I respected them, and I realized that a good artist need to have a power which move people’s mind more than good skills.

David bowie

“Who is David Bowie?” I said. When I first heard about his name, I thought that he was a famous painter or architect in America. However, when I visited to the museum, I was surprised because he was musician. “Oh my god, was he a famous musician? Was he member of betles?” I first asked myself because I did not know old musicians except betles. that is why, I wanted to know about David Bowie. His exhibit showed me what he influenced many people in the middle of 20^th by consisting of various his uniforms, his songs and his life. Especially, his fashion was really interesting because I did not imagine his fashion was accepted by people who lived at that time. However, clearly He influenced people’s fashion at that time, and he proved the fact by opening this exhibit in Chicago. When I first saw his uniforms, the uniforms looks for girls, so I did not like his style despite the fact that I accept easily various cultures. However, I looked around the exhibit, and found many people were interested of that. After visiting the exhibit, I entered a media room, and I watched his acting in the movies. When I was watching, I realized that he was really handsome more than me, and I was disappointed of god because it was unfair that he had all of those.

           His art is like toys that people who live at that time remember their childhood by. He controlled main stream of culture at the time. Today many people want to remember their memory by seeing David Bowei’s exhibit. That is to say, his art is people’s memory.

The movie “Frida” by Julie Taymor expresses about her life. She was a representative women painter in the Mexico. According to the movie, her life was really hard more than normal. For example, when she was 18 years old, she got into a car accident. The effect was that she had suffered a pain in the most her life. After watching the movie, I thought about relationship between her art and her work. Her works were expressions of her emotion by painting her-portray in her works. Especially, she was influenced by her husband. Her husband, Rivera was a famous painter in the Mexico. However, he liked to sex with girls. When I was watching the scene, I had a question why many artists want to do deviations such as a sex, a alcoholic or a drug. Anyway, her husband protected to her before leaving from him. That is to say, if he was not with her, people would not watch her works. After watching the movie, I imagined if I am a student who want to be a painter, and I face to her, what i will ask her about. I will ask her what I need to be a good artist, and May be she will tell me that i need to understand my emotions, and express them in paintings. This answer was my realization about the movie.

When I first got a roof project, I thought it would be easy. However, my guess was missed the mark because I needed to concentrate to listen the audio tour, and it was hard for me. Of course I understood the most contents. The audio tour was an effective way before going to the places in person. Because I could imagine about the arts they explain. For example, when I listened the last audio about Ivan Mestrovich, I imagined his art, and I wanted to see the art in person. The last audio was very useful information because it is my part of presentation. Before going to the bowman & spearman, I researched about the art, and I listened the audio file. The effect was that I understood more effectively about the art. I recommend the audio tour because people do not have time to understand about the art when they travel around Chicago. If they want to have a good trip, they first have to study about art in chicago before going to tour. I learned that I lived with art in Chicago. I never known before preparing this project. I just thought that Chicago was a good city because there were big buildings and a lake. However, now I realized that Chicago is an art city.

Reflection

Reflect on Art Institute Visit

           I faced a lot of art information, and knowledge at art institute. I have been there many times. However, this time was very nice for me because I made effort to know more about arts. I saw many arts such as George Seurat’s art, Monet’s art and Robert’s art. One of those was Gogh’s galley. Gogh’s art impacted me because I never saw in person before visiting to art institute. That is to say, I had expected to face his arts in person. When I was looking around his gallery, I discovered one art, and for some times, I stood in front of one art. It was a self-portrait of Vincent van Gogh. This art was really impression for me because it had a lot of emotion about him. He expressed his sadness, depression, and loneliness. After looking around arts in all of rooms, I and classmates had team presentations. My team picked “champs de mars” by Robert up. Despite the fact that my team prepared hard to show presentation, it was terrible presentation. However, I know Gitte loves people who make effort about learning opportunities.

Before coming to Chicago, my friends told me that I should go to art institute because there were many arts. I have been to art institute museum two times in 2 years. However, I did not explore the website before getting this homework. The main page was like beautiful girl who attracted people. I was attracted by the beautiful girl. I entered the part of collection. There were a lot of arts, and explanations of the arts. I looked at various arts. Especially, the African- American section was impressing because I understood their history which they lived hard in American. For example, the art” Cotton Pickers” by Thomas Hartbenton  shows their hard time in American history. That is to say, the website is like Michigan Lake because they have various information, and useful knowledge.

A cultural center is a famous place in Chicago. I have been there two times before. However I expected to meet new art. When I first saw the building, it is like an old palace. The first floor was the 3 exhibits such as all the names, die welt, and topography of tension. Specially, die welt was interesting. When I first heard about the title, I thought when artist is dying, he wrote the art. However, it was really a good writing despite, the fact that I did not understand the meaning. After looking there, I went to CHCG DSGN. There were many ideas to make up home. One of those was 312 design. It was very impressive for me. I thought that if I set up the design, I have to drink 312 beers for making that. Anyway, I learned what is deign, and how many times artists worked hard for making those.

Water taxi tour

When I heard about a water taxi, I thought that the taxi was a car which drive near the river. However, it was a boat. After coming to Chicago, I have never taken a boat, so I was excited for it. Additionally, the ticket price was two dollars. That was why I could be excited. When I was taking the boat, I saw the sky. The weather was beautiful, and the architectures looked like the best artwork, human could make. One of the buildings was a trump tower. It was a modern architecture, and the building reflected the river, and skyline. It was awesome. When I finished the tour, I decided that I would take the water taxi again.

       Some people named alien's architecture. On the other hand, most people called the representative civilization architecture. It was pyramid. Pyramid was established by various civilizations in Egypt. When I was 16 years old, I went to Egypt for trip with my family, and I faced the older civilization. The pyramid looks like a big mountain but each parts was arranged very exactly. When I first faced the Pyramid, I was really impressed because I had watched the Pyramid in Television before. Also I thought how they developed their civilization by building the Pyramid. I wanted to rise of the top. However, inspectors did not allowed people to enter there because it was an accident which one man did suicide by running down there on last week. My dream which rise of the top was disappeared by the store. When I was really disappointed, my father told me that we will go up to the top next time, and now we have to enjoy seeing in the situation. I promised myself that one day I will rise of the top.

How Do I Live In Art

         Many people live with more art than people think. I also live with art in my life. Actually, I did not think about that before I read a text book. However, after I read the book, I started to look around to find my art. First, I found that I lived with music art. Music is expressions of my feeling. For example, when I feel lonely, I listen to love song to overcome that. On the other hand, when I am happy, I listen to electronic music with dancing. That is to say, I can express my feeling by listening to music. Also when I listen to music, I can imagine to have a relationship with artists in music and to understand artists’ feeling and messages. Second, I like to decorate my house. I sometimes think how I can make my room more effectively. The effect is that I sometimes move my stuffed to look like a good house. Despite the fact that it is hard to change my house, I enjoy doing it, and it is one part in my art. Finally, I like to take pictures. The textbook is that making art needs to have an attention, imagination, intelligence and ability. Taking pictures also can be a part of art because it have all of those. For example, when I take pictures, I concentrate to do that, and think how to take pictures very well. Also my friends like my pictures, and I feel happy. Therefore, taking pictures is one part in my art.

         In conclusion, I live with art such listening to music, decorating my house and taking pictures. Actually, doing art need to have a lot of good conditions and abilities. However, best important thing is people to enjoy doing art. Therefore, despite the fact that I am not a good photographer, designer and artist, I will enjoy doing my art.
